Anita Yuen's reaction towards the annual dog-eating day
Every summer solstice at the city of Yu Lin is considered the death date for dogs. Yesterday was actually the summer solstice and also the city's once a year dog-eating event. Many dog-sellers killed dogs according to the tradition. Even though throughout the years this event have received numerous backlashes, many dog-sellers actually took advantage of dog-lovers' sympathy to profit. There was a post circulating the web that one seller actually abused the dogs to force people to pay to rescue them. A group of artistes expressed their anger through their love for dogs and expressed their disapproval for dog-eating.
Angry netizens curse online
What's unbelievable was that Anita Yuen (袁詠儀)'s dog Dai Jin (帶金) was born on the dog-eating day. Taking advantage of her dog's birthday, on Weibo she appealed: "Dai Jin's birthday wish is for not to have dog-eating day ever again and wishes every family to live healthily." Many netizens left a message supporting Anita, but there were also many who expressed a different opinion and aggressively remarked that Anita was blocking people from making money. There were people that left messages cursing: "-your mother" and "Dog fan, wish you get bitten by a dog and get rabies." Their tones were aggressive.
Currently working in Mainland, Anita accepted a phone interview and attacked people who abused dogs: "I don't understand why a civilized society will do such an uncivilized thing. I understand everyone has the freedom to choose, but dog is a human's best friend. For example, I've raised Dai Jin for a year, he understands me. We shouldn't hurt such a cute animal. Bluntly speaking, we don't know where the dogs come from, they might grew up eating trash. If we kill them and eat them, we don't know what after effects we'll be facing."
