Yvonne Ho: I do not mind waiting 10 more years to reach my goal
Yvonne Ho (何綺雲) who is named 'Queen secretary' by online netizens, is recently starring in the drama Destination Nowhere (迷). In the drama she plays a smart policewoman named Natgo. She is also Kevin Cheng's (鄭嘉穎) superior and gets along well with her subordinates. However in reality, her personality is the opposite, isn't good at communicating. She attended Destination Nowhere promotion event and accepted an interview with hk01.com. During the interview, she said: "I am very different to my character. I don't know how to social, a very quiet person, not very good at communicating. I don't usually greet people....I know there isn't a lot of these opportunities for these type of characters. You have to know certain types of people in the industry to get this role, but I am a fighter. If I didn't stay in the industry, I wouldn't know how to fight for something. I said to myself, if I had the chance I would work hard for it. I would not let down the person who gave me this chance.
Not good at communicating, but am grateful for Amy Wong's encouragement
I am not the type of person who can play cool characters and since little I was never a good communicator, she said: "If I run into my family members on the street, I would go the opposite way. It's not that I don't like them, I just don't know what to do". (Is there social barriers?) I think so, but it has improved a lot now. I am someone who leaves straight away after filming because I don't know how to socialise. When there is a lunch break during filming, colleagues would ask me to join them. If not I would eat by myself. Everyone would say I am Amy Wong's (王心慰) queen and in fact we just communicate only for work purposes. We rarely speak on the phone, if so it is only work related. but I am grateful of her. Every time when I want to give up, Amy would introduce to me playful characters and encourage me to go on. I think everyone would now know what type of relationship we have".
Before Yvonne Ho entered the entertainment industry, she was a Starz People model at 26 years old and later joined TVB's 17th artiste training class, with other artists in her class was Hoffman Cheng (鄭世豪), Glen Lee (李霖恩等) and more. She endured 14 years to be offered this good role (Destination Nowhere character), but previously only playing secretary roles. She said: "I think I haven't been in a historical drama for 10 years now. How many times have I been a secretary? Too much to remember. I've never been a secretary in real life and people have realised I am not a secretary this time.
Her friends are happy that she is not playing a secretary role and even online netizens are happy for her, but Yvonne Ho doesn't want to reply to their comments because she fears of self-confidence. She said: "I currently do not reply to comments online. I am very happy that someone notices me, but my self-confidence has fallen to the bottom. I am not happy when I watch myself act. I use to have a lot of confidence when I use to be a model, but I felt contempt when I first entered TVB, had no backup. I remember during Last One Standing (與敵同行), I went to look at comments and was told off by people. At that time I thought my career would be over, but luckily Catherine Tsang (珍姐) organised a different drama for me.
14 years goal: I do not mind waiting 10 more years
During her modelling days, her income was good that she earned an average of thirty thousand Hong Kong dollars per month. However, when she started acting her monthly income per month was less than HK$5000. She doesn't think money was the problem, she said: "I am not sensitive to money, the more money I have, the more I spend. The less money I have, the less I spend. I would cry alone when I'm unhappy and I've cried a lot. I once really cried while filming and don't ask me when. I do not want to mention anyone and I do not believe I am the only one. We artistes hiding alone and crying is a natural thing. You would often be called 'you right there, it is time for filming, get into your positions, why don't you have any reaction, hurry up and do it'. I know if you put your heart into doing something you love, people will notice you. To get a good role, you might have to wait 1 year, 2 years and maybe I will have to wait 10 years. I will wait even if it takes 10 years to reach my goal".
