Netizens pointed Jun Ji Hyun was not patriotic and unqualified to receive the award
A few days ago, 2015 Korean Pop Culture and Arts Awards (2015年韓國大眾文化藝術獎) announced the winner list and currently 7 months pregnant female artiste, Jun Ji Hyun (全智賢) was one of the winners and will be receiving the award on 29 October. Last year, her popularity rose based on My Love from the Star (來自星星的你) series which became the trendsetter in Korea. However, the netizens pointed she was not patriotic and unqualified to receive the award.
The netizens also brought up the history of Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun (金秀賢) endorsed Mainland China brand of mineral water in June 2014 and the water source came from China, Paektu Mountain and not Paektu Mountain referred by Korean. Hence, 2 countries were debating and Ji Hyun and Soo Hyun were pointed as traitors. Shortly later, Soo Hyun terminated the contract but Ji Hyun expressed the company was unrelated to politics and continued to advertise the mineral water brand.
In addition, Ji Hyun was the main lead in Assassination (復國者聯盟) movie which was related to independence and it was aired in July 2015. When asked if she was concerned about the history during the interview, Ji Hyun said: "Nope. The script is perfect and the role attractiveness made me accept filming the movie but I feel Ahn Ok-yun's character is hard to understand. Perhaps because I am not concern about independence and national news." Thus, many Korean were sensitive towards her and felt Ji Hyun was unqualified to receive the award.
The organisation committee expressed that they were unaware about the debate with the mineral brand endorsed by Ji Hyun and there was no disagreements when the judges decided to give her the award, and it was awarded to her based on her contributions towards developments in Korea.
